Last week, Peebles High School and Peebles Elementary School came together to honor local veterans as part of their annual Veterans Day observances. The day’s events celebrated the service and sacrifices of those who have protected our country, culminating in a ceremony, a special meal, and a veterans parade.
The morning kicked off with a heartfelt ceremony where Mr. Bill Setty was welcomed as this year’s guest speaker. Setty, a local veteran, shared inspiring words of gratitude and respect for all those who have served, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The ceremony, open to both veterans and the public, began at 8:00 a.m. Parking for the event was available in the large lot by the playground, ensuring easy access for attendees. As they arrived, veterans were treated to complimentary coffee and donuts donated by The Queen Beanery and the Peebles Ladies Auxiliary—a gesture of appreciation to start the day on a warm, welcoming note.
Following the ceremony, veterans were invited to enjoy the Meal of Gratitude hosted by Peebles High School. The meal, prepared as a token of thanks, provided an opportunity for veterans, their families, and the school community to connect and celebrate their service.
The day’s festivities concluded with the much-anticipated veterans parade, a procession where local veterans were celebrated by the community. Students, families, and residents lined the sidewalks to show their support and appreciation for the men and women who have served our country.
Peebles Schools take great pride in hosting this annual event, providing a meaningful way for students and community members to express their respect for veterans.
As the day came to a close, the Peebles community showed that honoring those who served is a tradition that will continue for generations to come.
