Dominique, an 18-year-old from Adams County, was recently recognized with the Leaders of Tomorrow Award by the Public Children Services Association of Ohio (PCSAO). The award, presented on September 9, 2024, honors young individuals who have had contact with the foster care system and demonstrate exceptional growth, resilience, and leadership.
Dominique’s journey reflects a story of determination and inspiration. Entering foster care as a teenager, he found a home in a kinship placement with his best friend’s parents, who later became licensed foster parents. The close bond formed during his time in their care means that Dominique will always be considered part of their family.
Throughout high school, Dominique distinguished himself as a role model both on and off the field. His athletic achievements include excelling in football, track, and wrestling. Despite being sidelined due to an injury during his senior year, he remained committed to supporting his football team from the sidelines, demonstrating the same dedication that earned him the Scioto Valley Conference (SVC) Athlete of the Year award for football in 2023, as well as the Scholar Athlete Award for track.
Dominique’s academic accomplishments are equally noteworthy. He graduated as Salutatorian of his class and was inducted into the National Honor Society, signifying his commitment to academic excellence. His hard work was rewarded with multiple scholarships, including the prestigious Presidential Award to attend Wittenberg University, where he plans to continue his football career.
In addition to his academic and athletic pursuits, Dominique balances a job at Kroger while finding time to enjoy life with his foster family and friends. His story of turning adversity into opportunity serves as an inspiration to those around him and exemplifies the qualities that the Leaders of Tomorrow Award seeks to recognize.
