Adams County was plunged into tragedy on Saturday evening as a young life was lost in a devastating flash flood incident amidst a deluge that wreaked havoc across multiple communities. The victim, a high school student, was killed after his was swept under by raging waters in southern Adams County.
The incident unfolded shortly before 8 p.m. on Island Creek Road near U.S. 52, as the region grappled with relentless rains that poured for an extended period, leading to widespread flash flooding. Reports from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office indicated that multiple local roads were inundated, necessitating closures due to the intense rainfall.
In the midst of this tumultuous weather, deputies witnessed the vehicle succumb to the force of the floodwaters, plunging beneath the surface. Despite valiant efforts from emergency crews to retrieve the vehicle and rescue its occupant, tragedy struck as the young passenger was found unresponsive. Despite immediate life-saving attempts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Miguel Quezada. Four people were in the vehicle and three had made it to safe ground, according to authorities.
The Manchester Local School District mourned the loss of one of its high school students, offering condolences and support to the grieving family.
