West Union High School’s Performing Arts Department is set to electrify audiences with their upcoming production of “The School of Rock,” a musical adaptation of the hit 2003 film. Directed by WUHS Faculty members Dakota Nehus and Carl Schneider, with Pit Ensemble Direction by Aaron Van Pelt, the cast and crew have been working tirelessly to bring this beloved story to life on stage. Set in a prestigious prep school, “The School of Rock” follows the adventures of Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star turned substitute teacher, who transforms a class of straight-A students into a mind-blowing rock band. Packed with memorable characters, catchy tunes, and plenty of laughs, the musical captures the rebellious spirit of rock ‘n’ roll while delivering an uplifting message about the power of music and following your dreams.
The production features a talented cast of students and alumni, who are not only actors but also musicians, as they will be performing their own musical numbers live on stage. From rockstar vocals to impressive guitar solos, the cast will showcase their musical prowess as they rock out to classic hits.
This year’s cast includes a diverse breakdown of grade levels, including five seniors, three juniors, four sophomores, and approximately a dozen seventh through ninth graders. Behind the scenes, the crew has been hard at work creating an immersive experience for audiences. More than a dozen students and adult volunteers have spent tireless hours to bring this performance to fruition.

“The School of Rock” will be performed at West Union High School this weekend on Friday, April 26th, and Saturday, April 27th, and next weekend on Friday, May 3rd, Saturday, May 4th, and Sunday, May 5th. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7 pm, and the Sunday performance is at 3:00 pm. Tickets can be reserved by phone at 544-5553 or in advance at the High School from 7 am – 9 pm. Tickets are also available for purchase at the door, but it is recommended to purchase them in advance. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
