Uecker resigned last month after taking a job at the Ohio Department of Transportation. The Informer first broke the story on Wednesday evening.
Dr. Terry Johnson has been selected to replace the Senator Joe Uecker of the 14th District. Before the appointment to the Senate, Dr. Johnson served as the 90th District State Representative which includes Adams and Scioto counties and parts of Lawrence county from 2011-2018.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Johnson writes “My application for appointment to the 14th Ohio Senate seat has met with success. Thank you so much for the overwhelming support that you have generously given to this effort. Your prayers were heard by God, your letters and notes to the Selection Committee were read and appreciated, and the outcome was finally decided. Serving others is one of the great joys of my life and I’m looking forward to getting to work once again in the legislature for the people of Southern Ohio. It was humbling to be included for consideration with the five other applicants, as each one is a great Ohioan and a great American. It is my sincere hope that the six of us will continue to work together to make the 14th District an even stronger and more prosperous place to live, work, and raise our families.”
A Senate GOP screening committee interviewed six candidates of which included Rep. John Becker, Rep. Doug Green, former Clermont Commissioner David Uible, Paul Hall, and Clermont County GOP Chairman Greg Simpson. From this mix, it is likely that Johnson will face a tough primary challenge. As his home area makes up a small portion of the district’s population.
The 14th District includes Adams, Brown, Clermont, Scioto counties and part of Lawrence county.
