June 26, 1945 – December 4, 2020
The Rev. Dr. Susan Kay (Kelley) Roads originally of Seaman, Ohio, entered the gates of heaven on December 4, 2020. She was born on June 26, 1945 to her parents Byron S. Kelley and Almeda Sue (Stamper) Kelley. Both of whom have preceded her in death. Also, preceding her in death was her one and only brother Stephen Kelley.
Left to greatly miss her is husband Rev. George H. Roads, two daughters JoAnn Spears of Beavercreek, Ohio and Peggy Sturdivant and husband Willis of Leitchfield, Kentucky.
Susan loved her two granddaughters Vanessa (Michael) Trapp and Emilie (Miles) VanderKolk and enjoyed many activities and trips with them over the years. Vanessa and her little triplets Corwin, Skylar and Harley, plus a new family member Nikolai were quite a blessing to her. Emilie and her husband Miles have recently given Susan a great grandson Knox whom Susan was greatly looking forward to spoiling as she did his mom.
Susan was a graduate of Seaman High School, Wilmington College, The Methodist Theological School and Ashland University in Ashland Ohio, where she received her doctorate of ministry.
As one can see she enjoyed her formal education, plus reading many books on many subjects. At one time she and George had 77 shelves of books.
After her Methodist Seminary graduation, she was appointed clergy to the New Holland and Atlanta UM Church charge, followed by United Methodist churches at Ridgeway, Peebles and Bryan, Ohio. Susan and her husband George ministered accumulatively 91 years.
Susan was very creative and was always into something new. Susan spent many hours helping Bob McEwen get elected to State Representative for Ohio, running for city council in Marion, Ohio and being very active in the Emmaus Community in several cities in Southern Ohio. Before going to seminary, she ministered (and entertained) several church banquets by speaking the Word and singing favorite gospel hymns. Susan collected music and also laughs. She brought a party to every encounter she was presented.
Susan believed that the most powerful thing you can do is to spend your precious time talking with God and lifting your loved ones up in prayer. We are reassured in the knowledge that Susan is now with our Heavenly Father and will be joining in a party there.
