Adams County parents are expected to start school shopping in a matter of days and a tax holiday will help consumers absorb the uptick in expenses and high unemployment during COVID-19.
Good news is: you can stretch your dollars further by shopping on Ohio’s sales tax holiday.
This year, the holiday starts on Friday, Aug. 7, and runs through midnight on Sunday, Aug. 9.
Ohio has honored the national sales tax holiday since 2015. All vendors must comply by law.
During this period, you won’t pay sales tax on clothes under $75 dollars, school supplies priced at $20 or less, or for teachers’ “instructional material” that doesn’t cost more than $20.
School supplies included in the back to school tax free holiday include: binders; book bags; calculators; cellophane tape; blackboard chalk; compasses; composition books; crayons; erasers; folders (expandable, pocket, plastic, and manila); glue, paste, and paste sticks; highlighters; index cards; index card boxes; legal pads; lunch boxes; markers; notebooks; paper; loose leaf ruled notebook paper, copy paper, graph paper, tracing paper, manila paper, colored paper, poster board, and construction paper; pencil boxes and other school supply boxes; pencil sharpeners; pencils; pens; protractors; rulers; scissors; and writing tablets.
