A town hall meeting has been scheduled to discuss the West Union Fire and EMS Levy that will appear on the March 17th ballot. The meeting will take place at the West Union Fire Department building located at 57 Logan’s Lane, West Union, Ohio on March 10th at 6:00 p.m. The West Union Village Council meeting will follow.
The wording of the proposed levy reads as follows, “An additional tax for the benefit of West Union Village for the purpose of providing and maintaining fire apparatus, salaries, appliances, building, or sites therefore, or sources of water supply and materials, therefore, or establishment and maintenance of lines of fire alarm, telegraph or the part-time or volunteer fireman, firefighting or EMS companies to operate the same at a rate not exceeding three and one-half (3.5) mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to thirty-five cents ($0.35) for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for five (5) years, commencing in 2020, first due in calendar year 2021.”
The West Union Fire and EMS Levy is the only levy appearing on the March primary ballots in Adams County. In the 2019 General Election, West Union voters voted down a similar levy – 285 to 239. In the 2018 Primary Election, a similar levy was placed on the ballot, voters also voted it down – 223 to 137.
