An Adams County man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend last summer has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
Coy Kidd admitted under oath in Adams County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday, March 12, that he fatally shot Sarah Young in June 2024 at her home in the Cherry Fork community. Kidd told Judge Brett Spencer that he had been using methamphetamine at the time and believed Young had stolen his pickup truck.
“I was very angry at this time, and as a result, I went into the house with a gun,” Kidd said in court. “While inside, I argued with Sarah over my truck, and she made a quick movement on the couch. I shot her.”
Murder charges were initially filed against Kidd on August 5, 2024. In addition to voluntary manslaughter, he has also been charged with receiving stolen property.
Kidd faces a lengthy prison sentence, with formal sentencing scheduled for next month in the Adams County Court of Common Pleas.
