A fire destroyed significant portions of a commercial property on Thursday at 41 Sugar Street in Peebles. Authorities reported no injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the blaze began in a red storage barn before rapidly spreading to adjacent storage units. “It looked like the place exploded,” one witness described. Firefighters were able to contain the flames, but only one storage building remained standing near a nearby bank.
The storage units are owned by Matrix Commercial Group LLC, based in Ostrander, Ohio, just north of Columbus. Public records list Neal Koenig as the statutory agent for the company.
Local fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze. Further details, including the extent of the damage and any potential impact on renters of the storage units, are expected as the investigation continues.
