On October 5th, the Courthouse Square in West Union came alive with festive energy as the community gathered for the annual Trunk or Treat event. Sponsored by the West Union Cruise Nights Group, the evening drew a crowd of nearly 1,000 people, filling the square with excitement and a sense of nostalgia.
Throughout the evening, attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, with local vendors offering crafts and food trucks serving up a range of delicious treats. A lively corn hole tournament, including a winner-takes-all game, kept competitors engaged, while children delighted in the inflatables. A pumpkin-decorating contest saw some impressive entries, and prizes were awarded to the most creative participants.
The event also featured a live performance by local musician Jachin Irwin, whose tunes filled the square, enhancing the upbeat atmosphere. Attendees strolled through the packed square, elbow to elbow, enjoying the crisp fall air and the lively community vibe.
“Remember growing up, hanging out with friends on the courthouse square, and cruising town in your teenage years?” one of the event organizers reflected. “We’re trying to bring that feeling back by having monthly gatherings throughout the early summer and fall. Trunk or Treat is just the beginning.”
The trunk contest, where creatively decorated cars competed for prizes, was another crowd favorite. Contest winners in both the trunk and pumpkin competitions were announced at the close of the event, each receiving well-earned recognition and prizes.
With the incredible turnout, the West Union Cruise Nights Group is optimistic about hosting more gatherings next year. “We’re encouraging everyone to come out and support these small-town events,” an organizer added. “It’s a great way to bring the community together, just like we did when we were growing up.”
As the night wrapped up, it was clear that West Union’s Trunk or Treat had brought the town together, with residents eagerly anticipating next summer’s planned events.
