In early 2019, civic leaders in Adams County came together to establish the Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) with the mission to enhance the quality of life for every citizen and community in the region. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Foundation, a milestone celebrated with pride and gratitude for the impactful work accomplished by its all-volunteer team.
Over the past five years, the ACCF has made significant contributions to the community. Through various funds, the Foundation has awarded 91 scholarships, provided 25 grants to local organizations, and established endowment funds to ensure continuous support for beloved nonprofits. Donors have the flexibility to support specific causes or trust the Foundation’s trustees to prioritize community needs.
The ACCF is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity, eligible to receive tax-deductible bequests, transfers, and gifts. This status enables the Foundation to attract and manage charitable contributions effectively, ensuring that donors’ philanthropic goals are met efficiently and sustainably.
The Board of Trustees, comprised of dedicated volunteer community leaders, oversees the Foundation’s operations. Their mission is to be responsible stewards of contributed assets in accordance with donor wishes and the Foundation’s governing instruments. They champion private giving for public good, provide flexible and lasting ways for donors to achieve their philanthropic goals, and make grants that have a significant impact on recipients and address community needs. The trustees also encourage collaboration and cooperation among funders and service providers to better address these needs.
The current Board of Directors includes Kent Gulley, John Condon, Mike Pell, John Lawler, Linda Stepp, and Paul Worley. These individuals bring their expertise and passion to the Foundation, driving its mission forward with dedication and vision.
The ACCF has been fortunate to receive invaluable advice and support from the Scioto Foundation. The board of governors, executive director, and staff at Scioto have pledged to provide direction and administrative services until the ACCF can operate independently.
As the Adams County Community Foundation celebrates its five-year anniversary, it invites the community to strengthen its impact by contributing to existing funds or starting new ones. This collaborative effort will ensure that Adams County continues to thrive, benefiting current and future generations.
