Local Boy Scout Ryken Copas recently achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, signifying his dedication and leadership. Ryken partnered with GE Aerospace’s Peebles Test Operation to revive the once-neglected wetland trail.
Established in the 1990s, the wetland trail had fallen into disrepair over time. Recognizing an opportunity to serve, Ryken undertook the task of rebuilding a vital bridge on the trail as part of his Eagle Scout project. Under the guidance of Boy Scout Troop 60, chartered by the West Union Lions Club, Ryken focused on this crucial aspect of one of the trail’s bridges revitalization, ensuring safe and renewed access for employees and visitors alike.
Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America is a tremendous accomplishment that requires dedication, leadership, and service. Scouts must complete a rigorous set of requirements, including earning merit badges that demonstrate their proficiency in various skills and outdoor activities. Additionally, they must plan, develop, and execute a significant community service project, known as the Eagle Scout project. This project is designed to benefit the community and showcase the Scout’s leadership and organizational abilities. Once all requirements are met, the Scout’s project is reviewed by a board of experienced Scouters, and upon approval, the Scout is awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.
Ryken’s Eagle Court of Honor ceremony was held on April 21st and celebrated not only the completion of his project but also his personal growth through scouting. Today, Ryken Copas embodies the principles of leadership, service, and community commitment that the Boy Scouts of America strive to instill in every member.
