The spirit of agriculture and education converged at the Adams County Fairgrounds last week as students gathered to celebrate Adams County Ag Day. Hosted by the Ohio Valley Career & Technical Center, the event offered a blend of fun and educational activities aimed at fostering an appreciation for agriculture among attendees of all ages.
One of the highlights of the day was the Kindergarten Ag Day, where approximately 750 pre-k and kindergarten students had the unique opportunity to interact with farm animals and learn about the dairy industry. Among the beloved guests was Bessie the cow, who “patiently” allowed the young participants to try their hand at milking—a hands-on experience that left a lasting impression on the students.
Following the milking session, volunteers guided the children in making homemade butter, providing them with a tangible connection to the process of dairy production. Additionally, the young learners were encouraged to name their favorite dairy products, further deepening their understanding and appreciation of the dairy industry.
The success of Adams County Ag Day would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the Ohio Valley Career & Technical Center’s Ag Business, Ag Mechanic, and Early Childhood Education classes. These students, alongside enthusiastic volunteers, played a pivotal role in organizing and executing a day filled with engaging activities and valuable learning experiences.
As attendees departed the fairgrounds, they carried with them not only memories of a day spent immersed in the wonders of agriculture but also a newfound appreciation for the vital role it plays in our lives. Adams County Ag Day served as a reminder of the importance of nurturing the next generation of agriculturists and fostering a deeper connection to the land and its bounty.
