An Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser collided head-on with another vehicle last Tuesday evening in Meigs Township. The crash was reported around 8:30 p.m. on Davis Memorial Road at Steam Furnace, according to the patrol.
According to authorities, the other driver was a 19-year-old man who was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The State Trooper has been identified as David Ellis. Ellis was transported by ambulance to Clermont Mercy Hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The State Patrol said that drugs may be a factor in the civilian driver. Sgt. Joshua Hunter said that Trooper Ellis was on routine patrol toward the end of his shift, just out driving around when the crash occured. His lights and siren were not activated.
Crews cleared the crash scene at around 11:30 p.m.
