Candidates in Adams County are making their closing arguments in the last days of the 2024 primary election campaign. With all contested races being on the Republican side, GOP primary voters have been inundated with advertising over the past several weeks.
Locally, the race for Adams County Sheriff has been competitive. Polling conducted by Adams County Republicans and shared with the Informer suggests a close race between Donnie Edgington, Bob Ruebusch and Shawn Cooley. The other candidates trailed multiple points behind the top three. There are also multiple candidates for the offices of County Commissioner.
The primary races have been expensive. For example, in the race for Sheriff, four of the candidates filed their annual campaign finance reports last at the end of January. The financial activity was from the beginning of their campaigns through part of January. Candidates Shawn Cooley and Mike Estep did not file a report as they had not spent enough money to trigger reporting requirements. Combined candidates Ruebusch, Edgington, Kenny Dick, and Sam Purdin had spent just shy of $64,000, with Ruebusch leading in campaign spending.
Voters can also expect to see multiple candidates for Congress and State Representative on the ballot.
Election Day will be held on Tuesday, March 19th. Early voting has been underway for several weeks. If you would like to vote early in-person, the Adams County Board of Elections will be open Wednesday March 13th through Friday, March 15th from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, March 16th from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, March 17th from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
