The Board of County Commissioners met last week and voted to restrict large solar farms or large solar facilities in Adams County. According to Commissioners, the board reached out to all townships in the county for a recommendation on how their communities would like to proceed with the restrictions, giving the power to allow or restrict solar farms to a township government.
The following townships in Adams County have voted to restrict solar farms in the county: Winchester, Scott, Bratton, Franklin, Wayne, Oliver, Meigs, Liberty, Brush Creek, and Monroe. The Monroe Township Board of Trustees restricted most of the township, the only exception being land where the former Dayton Power and Light facility once stood.
So far, only the townships of Tiffin, Sprigg, and Jefferson have not offered a designation, meaning that those townships would be eligible for solar farm projects. In Green Township, Trustees have said that they prefer solar panels on brown field areas.
Commissioners Jones, Moore and Ward voted unanimously to accept the recommendations of the townships.
