The rifle and pistol ranges at Tranquility near Seaman will temporarily close for maintenance in September, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
Repairs and general maintenance are tentatively scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sept. 5. Maintenance to the Tranquility range includes repairing cracks in the soil, adding sand to backstops, and grass reseeding.
Once maintenance starts the range will be posted as closed and will re-
open when work is completed. Contact each range before planning a visit to ensure the ranges are open. Contact Tranquility Wildlife Area at 937-987-2508.
Spring Valley Wildlife Area’s Class A Shooting Range offers an alternative site to visit. The Spring Valley range features space for pistol and rifle shooting and supplies target holders, benches, and restroom facilities. Spring Valley’s range is ADA accessible.
Class A ranges require a shooting range permit for all persons 18 years and older. Range permits
are available at all hunting and fishing license outlets and online at wildohio.gov. Permits are not sold at the ranges and must be purchased before arriving.
Visitors can purchase one of two permits: a $24 annual shooting range permit allows the permit holder to access all five Division of Wildlife-owned Class A ranges throughout the year, or a $5 one-day shooting range permit. The shooting of fully automatic firearms and rapid fire of semi-automatic firearms are strictly prohibited at all public ranges in Ohio.
