More than $3 million in financial assistance is available to current Duke Energy Ohio natural gas customers meeting income-eligibility criteria. Qualifying customers can apply to receive a one-time payment of $500 to their current natural gas bill. The funds are available as part of an agreement approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio earlier this year. Of the funding, $450,000 is reserved for qualifying seniors, with the balance available for eligible low-income customers.
To qualify, customers must be 65 or older and at or below 250% of the federal poverty guidelines, or have income at or below 250% of the federal poverty level. Customers must also receive natural gas service from Duke Energy Ohio and have an account registered in their name. The funds are available now and will remain available until they have been pledged to qualifying Ohio customer accounts. “People are paying more from the grocery store to the gas pump. Our customers are also noticing higher energy bills, as rising fuel costs impact the price of energy,” said Amy Spiller, president of Duke Energy Ohio and Kentucky. “We know that higher bills can be a hardship for many and we want to connect our customers with financial assistance and resources to help.”
Duke Energy is working with local agencies to determine eligibility and distribute the funds. To receive assistance in Adams County, contact: 9370-378-6041.
