A U.S. Marshal Southern Ohio Task Force member was struck after attempting to serve a warrant to a suspect on Friday. Authorities say that the Marshal’s SOFAST task force was in the process of serving a warrant on Keith McGuin when he struck a task force member with his vehicle and then rammed a Pike County Sheriff’s Department cruiser.
Law enforcement then opened fire as the suspect fled. McGuin was taken into custody a short time later, but his female passenger got out of the vehicle and ran off. She was also apprehended after a foot pursuit, led by Adams County Deputies. The apprehension took place in the vicinity of Beavers Ridge Road, just a few miles from the Union Hill Church.
According to news reports, the condition of one of the task force members appeared to be grim, however, both officers are now recovering. McGuin is now facing charges of attempted murder, in addition to the existing warrants that he had outstanding.
The task force is made up of local law enforcement officers and US Marshals that target fugitives in the region. In Adams County, Sgts. Walters and Newland as well as Lt. Sam Purdin are members of the task force.
