A beloved member of the New Life Church and Ministries on State Route 247 near Hillsboro was killed on Friday during a food pantry outreach event. Authorities say that 63-year-old Sandy Ray was hit by a car driven by Robert Hester on church property.
Ray was a volunteer for the event and was placing a cone in front of a truck and the Hester did not see her, according to a witness at the church.
Highland County Sheriff’s Deputies day that Ray was taken to Highland District Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Ray, who is from Adams County had been a longtime volunteer at the food bank. According to public records, Ray lived on Ward Road in Bratton Township.
The accident remains under investigation.
