Three West Union residents are seeking the vacant council seat of former Councilman Ted Grooms.
Applicants were asked to give details on three things: relevant experience, ability to serve, and interest in serving.
In his letter of interest addressed to council, William A. Denton wrote “I would like to see some changes in our town. I would like to keep the town budget on the positive side. The new sewage plant is needed, but for the taxpayers of WU I would like to keep out water and sewage bills at a level that does not create a burden to taxpayers. The streets need to be repaired as potholes are seen on many streets in town. I would like to see if we can get the trailers near fairgrounds up to code or do imminent domain to get rid of them since they are a blight on our community. I have not been personally involved in politics, built I feel I can make our town better.”
In her letter of interest addressed to council, Donna Young wrote, “I would like your vote for the seat on the council. I do attend all the meetings and give input on some subjects. I have never sat on the council so I feel a new set of eyes could benefit in so many ways, new proposals, new ideas etc. I think I would generate a positive outcome in our community. I know its been many years since a woman has been on the council and its time for a change. I would work hard for the people and listen to what they had to say. I feel its part of the job. I’, concerned and want nothing but the best for our town. It would be an honor and privilege to serve our village.
In her letter of interest, Veronica Grooms wrote, “I would to formally express my interest in filling the open position on the West Union Town Council. I believe my aptitude, experience, qualifications, and interests would be well suited as a council member. I have extensive experience and multitude of practical skills as well as an enthusiasm for community service that will enable me to become a critical part of this organization’s decision-making process.”
The candidate will be selected at the next council meeting on August 11th.
