An arrest warrant has been issued for former Clermont County Commissioner and current State Senate Candidate David Uible in Clermont County Municipal Court.
Uible is currently running to represent the 14th Senate District which includes Adams County.
According to the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office, Uible has been charged with Falsification and Obstructing Official Business.
The complaint reads, “On April 7th, Greg Simpson, Chairman of the Republican Party, contacted the Sheriff’s Office and made a report that political material had been generated in the form of postcards which state they were paid for by the Clermont County Republican Party. Simpson states that the Republican Party did not pay for or approve the chasers to be mailed.
Further, Uible denied any knowledge of the mailing or responsibility for generating it. On April 10th, Sgt. Boerger obtained evidence and statements from Minuteman Press in Anderson Township that show David Uible was the responsible party for the mailings and even instructed them to destroy any evidence of the mailing in their shop. Uible then denied any knowledge or responsibility for the mailing.
The Chairman of the Adams GOP promptly released a statement calling upon Uible to withdraw from the race if the alleged crimes are true.
“I have learned that candidate for State Senate David Uible has been charged with falsification and obstructing official business by Clermont County authorities,” said Adams County Republican Chairman Hart Wallingford. “This is disappointing news and if these allegations are in fact true, for the good of the party and the people of the 14th Senate District, Mr. Uible should withdraw from the race immediately.”
The Adams County Republican Party has taken no official position in the race for the State Senate and has offered no endorsements of either candidate.
On Tuesday, April 14th, detectives from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office charged David Uible, aged 59, of Clermont County with one county of falsification and one count of obstructing official business.
The charges stem from a report filed by Greg Simpson, the Clermont County Republican Chairman. Simpson filed a report with the Sheriff’s Office on April 7, 2020, alleging that an unknown person printed and mailed campaign material to residents in Clermont County, which included the language, “paid for by the Clermont County Republican Party, Greg Simpson, Chairman.” Simpson stated that he did not authorize the mailers and the Republican Party did not pay for the mailers.
During the investigation, Uible made false statements to a detective in an attempt to mislead and obstruct the investigation. It was later discovered that Uible paid for the printing of the campaign materials in question.
A date will be set for Uible to appear in Clermont Municipal Court once the warrants for the two above charges are served to him. An arrest warrant has been issued.
Uible is currently on probation for “tampering with records” in the Clermont County Common Pleas Court and was set to expire on April 25th. He is currently still a candidate for State Senate.
