An early morning fire closed parts of State Route 136 and US Route 52 in Manchester, Sunday morning as firefighters responded to S&G Pizza Pound located at 416 East 2nd Street. According to the Manchester Fire Department, at 5:36 a.m. Sunday, January 26, morning fire stations 13 and 10 were toned for a working commercial structure fire at the Manchester restaurant.
“To say I’m amazed is an understatement,” said Firefighter Kevin Walters. “This morning at 05:36 station 13 & 10 were toned for a working commercial structure fire at S&G Pizza Pound on 2nd Street. On arrival, crews found the rear of the structure well involved with heavy fire our engine crew deployed a 2 1/2″ handline and knocked the fire down in less than 3 minutes and station 18’s ladder crew opened the roof and extinguished fire that extended to the void space under the roof.”
According to Walters, many items including business equipment and inventory were saved. “Because of the quick work by both departments, all of the business equipment and most of the inventory was saved.” Walters went on to say, “This is where it gets amazing out of nowhere it seemed like half the town was there helping this family remove and clean all of their equipment inventory tables and chairs and relocate it to the adjoining building that the businessman owns it was truly amazing to see that amount of people show up in no time at all to lend a hand and assist this businessman and his family that is what our little town is truly about and due to everyone’s hard work and effort this business will be back up and running in no time.”
In a statement released on their social media page, owners of long-time business say they plan to reopen. “S&G suffered a significant loss this morning at the hands of a fire. Thankfully, the fantastic fire department, friends, and family saved a lot of equipment and gave their knowledge, hard work, and time. However, S&G is out of commission until we can relocate and rebuild in our neighboring building. We look forward to holding a grand opening soon and seeing everyone! Thank you to everyone for your continued support and patience during these trying times.”
