For all art enthusiasts, the Peebles Library is having a special “Winter Art Class” with Donelle on Thursday, December 12 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. At this family canvas painting, beginner and expert artists of all ages will learn step-by-step how to paint a winter cardinal! Calling all teens and tweens! The North Adams Library’s Teen Advisory Board meets on Monday, December 16 at 3:30 p.m. to make your own snow globe! These T.A.B. meetings are always on the third Monday on the month, and in addition to the activity, you’ll eat snacks and decide what you would like to do at the following month’s meeting, be it a craft, science experiment, or game!

The Hoxworth Blood Center is having a Blood Drive at the Peebles Library on Tuesday, December 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All types are welcome, so please call Hoxworth at (513) 451-0910 to schedule an appointment.
A couple of other special events this December are the Robert E. Hawkins Author Visits at two of the Adams County Public Library locations! Robert E. Hawkins grew up in West Union and graduated from the West Union High School in the class of 1988. First, on Friday, December 20, he will be at the West Union Library from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Then, the next day, Saturday, December 21, the Peebles Magazine Club will sponsor his visit at the Peebles Library, also from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Robert E. Hawkins’ first book, “A Book of Matches: The Life, Murder and Family of an Appalachian War Veteran,” retells the 1949 murder of his grandfather, Oliver Elliot “Zeke” Stayner, a World War II United States Air Force veteran in Peebles. After years of researching newspapers, diaries, and letters, Robert E. Hawkins conveys the perseverance of his widowed grandmother, Edith Stayner, and her two daughters, Susan and Dottie, in the aftermath of this tragedy.
Kids, ages 3 to 12, if you haven’t signed up for the North Adams Library’s “Holiday Elf Shelves,” hurry, because you only have until Friday, December 13 to sign up, read books, and turn in your reading log! Every 5 picture books and each chapter book you read are worth $1, with $20 being the maximum amount you can earn. To spend this “money,” you can come in to the North Adams Library anytime between Monday, December 16 and Monday, December 23 to select which gifts you want to get for yourself or your friends and family.
This month, our December STEM Saturdays will feature Olly & Sphero as well as Ozobots! Ages 8 and up can come anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to play with these robots and learn about their technology and engineering. They will be at Manchester Library on December 7, Peebles Library on December 14, North Adams Library on December 21, and West Union Library on December 28.
Library Resource Spotlight: If you need to place multiple copies of an item on hold, remember that you can do it yourself by using the Multiple Item Holds link on our online catalog. Simply sign-in with your library card number and pin, search for the titles you need, then select the “Reserve This Copy” link next to which copies of the book you would like until you have the desired amount placed on hold. This feature is perfect for book clubs and teachers with classroom projects, providing an easy way to place and track your holds!
