Staff Report
A group of caring citizens is raising money to provide an incredible Christmas gift for the 11 year old girl recently rescued from a shocking case of abuse and neglect in Brown County. The group has created the A Gift of Hope from the Heart Benefit Fund to raise $6,000 for the girl whose name has not been released and two adult guardians to spend six days at the Walt Disney World sometime in the new year.
The girl was discovered by a Child Protective Services worker after a report was filed. The child weighed just 47 pounds and was allegedly allowed to eat nothing but rice, once a day. She was experiencing liver failure and was in desperate need of need of medical treatment, and the adults with whom she was living have been arrested.
For now, the girl is thriving in her new environment and receiving the love and support she needs to overcome her traumatic past.
To donate to the benefit fund, make checks payable to: A Gift of Hope from the Heart, First State Bank, 4929 State Route 125, Georgetown, Ohio 45121. Donations also can be made in person at any First State Banking Center. Any donations received above the $6,000 goal will be placed into a guardianship account until the girl turns 18.
