The Adams County Public Library is proud to announce that local author and musician Robert E. Hawkins will visit both the West Union Library and the Peebles Library this December! He is originally from West Union and graduated in the class of 1988 from West Union High School. His book, “A Book of Matches: The Life, Murder and Family of an Appalachian War Veteran,” describes the shocking murder of Robert E. Hawkins’ grandfather, Oliver Elliot “Zeke” Stayner, a World War II United States Air Force veteran, in Peebles during 1949, and the perseverance of his family in its aftermath. Robert E. Hawkins will be at the West Union Library on Friday, December 20 at 2:00 p.m. The following day, Saturday, December 21, he will have an author visit at the Peebles Library at 2:00 p.m., sponsored by the Peebles Magazine Club.
Another special event at the Peebles Library this December is the “Winter Art Class” on Thursday, December 12 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Artists of all ages will learn how to paint a winter cardinal through step-by-step instruction from Donelle. Supplies are limited, so please pre-register for this program by calling the Peebles Library at (937) 587-2085.
Also at the Peebles Library, all types are welcome to donate blood on Tuesday, December 17. The Hoxworth Blood Center will be at the Peebles Library from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please call Hoxworth at (513) 451-0910.
Thanks to the North Adams Library’s “Holiday Elf Shelves,” buying gifts for your friends and family has never been easier! Kids, ages 3 to 12, can sign-up to earn “money” by reading books, which they can then use to buy toys from the library’s display. Going on now, children may sign-up anytime and must turn in their completed reading logs by Friday, December 13. Then, they can come in the North Adams Library anytime between Monday, December 16 and Monday, December 23 to pick out which gifts they want to give to their loved ones, or keep for themselves. The toys are first come first serve, so come in early for the best selection.
