The third victim that perished in a house fire in the murder spree that left three dead and one injured has been identified.
Local obituaries indicate that Kristie Carter, 64, of Seaman passed away at her home. The home which is located at 3333 State Route 770 was believed to be set on fire by Brandon Carter prior to the other murder. Brandon Carter is the son of Kristie Carter and reportedly lived at the residence. At this time, it is not clear if Brandon Carter murdered Kristie Carter before setting the house on fire.
Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) disclosed that human remains were discovered in the burned-out house of the suspect. The remains are believed to be of Carter’s mother. BCI said the house fire had been set intentionally.
Kristie Carter was born July 3, 1955, in Hillsboro, Ohio the daughter of the late John and Katie (Ogden) Fender. She is survived by two sons, Michael Wayne (Renea) Carter II of Waynesboro, Virginia and Charles “Chuck” Carter of Peebles, Ohio; six grandchildren, Derek Carter, Angel Renea Carter, Aaron Michael Carter, Lydia Carter, Bianca Kay Carter and Naomi Roslyn Carter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Wilkins and a brother, Darryl Fender. A memorial service will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family. The Turner and Son Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
On September 27, as many Adams County residents were headed to work and children were headed to school, Adams County Sheriff Kimmy Rogers received a call that a robbery ended in the gunned down death of one and another inquired.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened at the Marathon gas station on the corner of State Route 32 and Main Street. Brandon Carter attempted to abduct a clerk from the gas station and during the robbery, a delivery truck driver was shot and killed.
Witnesses say Carter entered the gas station through the back door. Carter then dragged the clerk outside and tried to get her into his truck. The clerk broke free and tried to run away.
“She put up a pretty good fight and got away from him which should be a lesson to anyone, you know, if she would have just got in that truck and rode off with him, I don’t know what the result would have been,” Sheriff Kimmy Rogers said.
Adams County Sheriff Kimmy Rogers says the clerk, identified as Kasey DePreist by family and friends was shot and taken to a Cincinnati hospital. Since DePreist has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

The delivery driver that was shot has been identified as Andrew Kunst. Reports show that he worked for H.T. Hackney, a grocery delivery company.
Carter also conducted a robbery across the highway at the 1st Stop Gas Station in Seaman. After this, Carter fled East in a 1999 Green Dodge Dakota on State Route 32. According to reports, a State Trooper from the Georgetown Post along with an Adam’s County Sheriff’s Deputy tried to stop Carter on State Route 73 at Portsmouth Road in Adams County.
An official from the Ohio State Highway Patrol says Carter shot himself while driving, which caused his vehicle to crash. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.
