Attention, area chili cooks, it’s time to register for the 2019 West Union Chili Cook-Off being held at the West Union Chili Fest. This year’s event will be the Cook-Off’s 11th year of existence.
The festival will be held on the courthouse square on Saturday, October 5th, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The chili cookoff contest will begin at 12:00 p.m. Organizers anticipate 30 entries and a large crowd of citizens and tourists sampling and voting for their favorite entries.
“We are excited to announce the continuation of the chili cookoff,” said Organizer Jason M. Francis. “We are even more excited to announce the increase of participation by local craft vendors, the Humane Society of Adams County, and many others.”
Chili Cook-Off participants are asked to provide a crockpot full of their best chili and a listing of main ingredients, such as pork, beef, or vegetarian (secrets are not necessary). Participants are also asked to complete registration forms. Forms can be found at the Informer Newspaper office, the West Union Post Office. Forms can be returned by mail to Chili Fest, 206 N. Pleasant Street, West Union, Ohio 45693 by Thursday, October 3rd. Prizes will be awarded for the “Best Tasting Chili” at 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded as follows, first place – $50 and the traveling trophy, second place – $25, and the third-place winner will receive a 2019 Humane Society T-shirt.
The fest will also feature adoptable animals from the Humane Society of Adams County, pumpkin painting, several local craft vendors, musical entrainment, and fall family photos by Hazelbaker Photography.
